Are you an acne sufferer?
Acne skin care can be a frustrating maze of myths and remedies that promise clean, clear skin, but only end up irritating the skin more rather than working to prevent acne breakouts. Sometimes, sensible skin care can save people from a visit to the dermatologist.
Despite longstanding rumours that chocolate, excessive exercise and a whole host of other things cause or worsen acne breakouts, the only real causes of acne are poor skin care, stress, and hormones. There is not much you can do to alter your hormone levels, but you can control your stress level, to a certain degree, and practice healthy acne skin care to prevent acne breakouts.
Have a stress release
Any stress release you can do, whether it is working out, reading, or study for that test in advance of time instead of cramming at the final minute, will help avoid acne breakouts. Whilst you cannot at all times be stress free, acne skin care is something you can always do that will help keep you as acne free as you possibly can.
Cleaning your skin
Acne skin care should involve cleaning your skin and not irritating it. Acne breakouts, in particular pimples, are fundamentally skin irritations. You need to make sure that you don't make breakouts any worse with inappropriate skin care. The primary and most vital thing you have to do is wash your face, or other unfortunate areas, at least once a day. If you have greasy skin, you may need to wash at least twice a day.
Simply use a good face wash and water, and avoid scrubing your face, as this will only further exasperate your skin problem. Try to be as tender as can be when drying your face, as well. Washing your face helps eliminate excess oil, which prevent the pores from getting blocked and forming pimples. Also, if you wear cosmetics, you should use water based, not oil based, cosmetics so that your pores can breathe easier.
Squeezing pimples
Squeezing pimples can actually make your skin worse if done ahead of time. If you try to pop a pimple before it is ready, you are more likely to damage your skin, which will leave a long-lasting red mark. The pimple can also pop and go deeper beneath your skin. This can make things even worse for the pimple, known as a cystic nodule, which forms a hard, painful lump. Cystic nodules, like bruising your skin, can be very obvious and can take a long time to go away. For this reason, squeezing pimples when they appear should not be your first acne skin care choice.
Acne breakouts and sunburn
Acne breakouts can be worsened by sunburns, which is damaging to your skin. Using a water-based sun block helps protect from burns while keeping pores clog-free. You will never be able to eliminate breakouts, but with smart choices and a little extra attention to proper acne skin care habits, you can reduce the chances of future outbreaks.
